Adept2u Correspondent for the #CookoutNewsNetwork

Howdy!

I had a ball in a hash tag yesterday.  #CookoutNewsNetwork was just like going to any one of 100's of family cookouts i've gone to and what made it so magical was I could have fallen into 1000's of them yesterday and sat right down without having to learn the backstory.  I'll begin my presentation with the last tweet I had in the series.

Brilliant Bridge: What's the Role of Others on the Bridge

A Light on the Bridge asks

Adept2u how do you see the role of the other Brilliancy here what kind of community are you trying to build?

I’m glad you asked.

Think of Brilliancy on the Bridge as having a movie theater where they are inviting the rest of us to watch the presentation they have prepared for us, called Life.
They are the projectionist they are in charge of the entire presentation and they have invited us to sit in the audience.

Brilliant Bridge members are there to CHEER THE MOVIE!

Suspend disbelief. Fall in love. In fact if you can you’re gonna help that movie win an the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Are you a critic? (Yes, I understand how criticism can be constructive)

The door is over there it has a big green Exit sign.

Thanks for asking. Someone else ask a question

A Waving at the Neighbors Update

It's been a week since I decided to take my chair Stargazer Friendfinder to the end of my driveway and wave at everyone who passes by and I thought I'd give an update.

This is by far the most groovy thing I've ever done for myself. The street I live on is first of all very busy. It is the main east west drag in our hillside hamlet so I'm busy. I am getting one heck of a workout! You beauty queens out there I tip my hat an hour's serious HOWDY waving is a workout.

I have become a phenomenon that children ask their parents to drive by and then the parents come by themselves. I stopped counting the frowns turned upside down I've caused. I believe I have dropped the average speed from warp 4 to mere impulse power on my little piece of the drag, and become an inspiration to the service club High School age kids looking for something to do.

I have made at least 10 solid friends I now know the names of and have moved past simple greeting to making human connection and within the next couple days I fully expect to have to bring out another chair for Stargazer because I’ve had a person ask if they could wave with me and I wholeheartedly accepted. Professional drivers are the most fun as I love air horns and I think the bus drivers on my route have begun announcing me because everyone on the bus now waves at me.

After one week.

Do I think this is for everyone? No, I’m a sales person who if when I cold called returned a positive result of whenever someone met my eyes I made a sale I’d be richer than Roosevelt so I’m not daunted by small rejections. Do I think it’s an excellent way to put yourself out there in anticipation of some really sweet result? Absolutely

Taking back our world from the control of fear time and money

Namaste Friends.

Here’s the first posting.

Moms family is from Georgia, I’ve shown you Moms family earlier with the presentation of the documentary Palmour St., and Pops family gave me my Alabama memories.  I mention it because of a habit both sides of the family have.

When they get home from work, or get done with their day.  They will get them a beer or other bevie and everyone will go and sit on the porch and wave at every person and car driving by.

The people who are walking will generally stop and talk, the people in the cars always wave and display nice friendly smiles.

Well yesterday I was yelling at something political that had pissed me off and something made me think “I bet these people where I live wouldn’t even wave back if I did the southern thing”.  I live on a very busy street the most busy in my area of the town, so I thought no one would care we’re LA after all and a challenge was born.

First the music I would pick a piece and I would wave all the way through it, and I know what I will use

Yeah that's me for the assignment next?

The Chair

STARGAZER

I set up for two way waving because that's how I roll.

I will now relay the results.

I apologize to my town for thinking it might not be friendly.  Oh my goodness, I don’t know how I’m going to be able to end my evening without doing this I didn't remember how good it felt.

I saw people who just didn’t see me, and the way people haul booty down my street I didn’t blame them.  Every single person who saw me waved.

2 separate men in pick up trucks who saw me saw my wave and didn’t think I saw them wave back drove around the corner to wave.  One stopped and asked if I were just waving and when I said yes told me that was just beautiful and that lit my heart.

I made a new friend in Amy the jogger I had seen many times running by my house and now know she’s a neighbor cooler than the other side of the pillow and yes she and her cool husband would love to drop by for a glass of vino and conviviality.

It’s my normal nature to count the wavers or something to keep my mind busy, but I didn’t have to.  Get down my city I’m proud of you, I was kept busy meeting you. I understand it might rain tomorrow, so nope, but whenever it’s not raining I think I’ll give Stargazer a last name.  Stargazer Friendfinder

Venus Jupiter and Mercury in his Eyes

Venus Jupiter and Mercury in his Eyes

He was born in the time of a rare conjunction.
My daughter grew to new levels of wisdom only labor teaches and as she learned
I observed its progress through the night and a day as she lie
I noted its progress in the sky.
I wondered about his beauty and the enormity of any task what message was its delivery a function.

My baby is a miracle the streams of his river so often blocked
For 3000 years one side harried with no home for 150 the other side feeling like a family alone.
Asunder in tyrants inhumanities visit what armor could I give him how do I cover his people left and docked.

Such a serious man my time machine, but already and abundantly with the answers they sheen.
I love you PopPop Grampy I love you too, and in that sweet answer hope springs always anew.

I know where part of the answer of Venus, Jupiter and Mercury lies

They look out of the time machine of the planets eyes.

Adept2u's American Album

My family was really started by two men, and no they weren’t gay. My Pop got a job as a computer programmer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in around 1968 when I was four years old. This was a tremendous opportunity for him. The list of professions that a Black man could hold wasn’t that long then, and although he had secured a great job as a social worker after college computers seemed the wave of the future.

That’s where he met Jim a man who loves me like a father. He is a White man from Iowa. His eldest sibling was born in the 1800’s. He grew up on a farm the last of 15 children, I can never remember exactly how many. I think my Pop was the first Black man he ever had more than just a brief conversation with, and he is the first person I can remember that is not a member of my biological family. He and my pop shared an office and became like peas and carrots. I used to fantasize and think of them as Bill Cosby and Robert Culp from the old TV show I Spy.

One day my pop comes home and tells me that he and Jim had gotten jobs with the Borroughs Corporation, and not only were we moving to sunny Southern California but we were going to be moving in with Jim and his family. That was nothing but gravy to me. I’m an only child and my very best friend in the whole world was Jim’s son Brian, it was going to be like a permanent sleep over. Plus my pop had just bought a brand new Chevy Camaro with the 396 and we were going to drive across America.

Once riding in old Baltimore,
Heart-filled, head-filled with glee;
I saw a Baltimorean
Keep looking straight at me.

Now I was eight and very small,
And he was no whit bigger,
And so I smiled, but he poked out
His tongue, and called me, "Nigger."

I saw the whole of Balimore
From May until December;
Of all the things that happened there
That's all that I remember.

Countée Cullen

That poem has always stuck with me because I had similar experience on our trip west. We stopped at a motel in Oklahoma City that had a pool brimming with white kids. Now for a kid who had grown up in Ohio Oklahoma City is plenty hot and a pool is quite a treat. We checked into our room where I changed and then raced for the pool. I jumped in, and 3 different moms grabbed their kids out of the water. That's right it emptied out from maybe 10 kids to none in like 3 minutes, and as one kid was crying at his mom that he still wanted to swim she looked at me and said you can't go swimming with that nigger.

Although I obviously do remember the incident I can’t say it left a scar on me or anything. I told my mom what happened. This lady was one of thousands of warriors in the battle for civil rights. She did multiple sit-ins and took several arrests, so she was well trained. She changed into her suit and took me back to the pool and we played in the pool until the sun went down. None of the other kids came back to the pool but I don’t remember caring.

Well five days in the back seat of a 1970 Camaro didn’t turn out to be exactly the most fun thing in the world. In order to calm the- are we there yets? my pop hyped a trip to Disneyland to the point I was afraid to even move in the back seat of the car. After we got to Pasadena we settled into a motel and after two weeks that seemed like four months Disney day came. My parents woke me woke up bright and early on a Saturday and we headed for Anaheim. Jim’s family had come west 4 months earlier to scout a house big enough to hold two sets of parents and four kids, and they were there as well, so my brother Brian and I were going to have a funky good time. We got there right when the park opened and went to the Oscar Meyer pavilion for breakfast. Ten minutes later I erupted in a blinding fever. To this day it is the sickest I think I’ve ever been. They took me to the infirmary where I went to sleep. When I woke up the park was closing. All I got to see was Mickey waving goodbye and all I got was a picture with him and a whole pack of unused E tickets.

My Momma Sherry is Jim’s wife and her brother is Uncle John. Uncle John heard this tale and a couple of weeks later as I really was knocked out for days my uncle John showed up at the door at the crack of dawn with Brian in tow. We jumped in his 69 Beetle and he took us to Disneyland. We had so much fun at Disneyland I thought they would throw us out.

My four parents eventually found a house that would hold us and after a few months in the motel we moved in together like a regular hippie commune. We stayed like that for 6 years until Jim and Sherry divorced, but our family didn’t end in divorce. Although our house split up our family did not. I got a new Momma Betsy from Jim a new Poppa Ron from Sherry. When my own parents split up a few years after that I got another set of fantastic parents. All us kids have grown up to be happy and healthy and we’ve even raised some children ourselves.

There is a lot of talk going on about unity, and where the pro and amateur parts of America are. We haven’t even had a big speech on what it is to be a pro American like Barack did on race. It’s frustrating and when you see some of the reactions from Palin or McCain’s rallies it’s even scary. We know that there are some people who are just mean and hateful, but when the spotlight of our 24/7 media hits them it gives us the impression that there are more of them than there actually are. That races and religions can’t live together. I guess that’s what motivated me to write this.

This is my American album.

Photobucket

I don’t see America as what happened to me in Oklahoma City. I see America as my Uncle John taking (Im the guy in front Uncle John is right behind me) me to Disneyland. My America has a White man moving his family together with that of a Black one and growing together. My family contains White people, Black people, Jews, Asians, Christians and Muslims. If I left anyone out I have a sister Laura who is looking for a good man. We are the real America and I just believe that there are a thousand times more of us than there are of them.

Namaste friends!
