My first love was science fiction, and my second love was politics. I'm cultivating a new love now that will encompass both, and I'm open to the journey.

Call to Action: Color of Change The Rape and Murder of Lavena Johnson
Her face grabbed my attention immediately when I saw it. So young she looked like any number of my daughter's friends or a cousin. Why my very great grandmother was named Lavena Johnson. What was she doing on the cover of the Huffington Post? Do the jump thing.
For one thing she probably looked like this when the attack occurred and she was a member of the US Army serving in Iraq.
Well it turns out Lavena was found with abrasions all over her body, a broken nose, a black eye, burned hands, loose teeth, ACID BURNS TO HER GENITALIA, oh and a bullet hole in her head. What was the Army’s answer to the family? Well first they told them that she died of “self inflicted non combat injuries” and not a suicide only to reverse their decision and declare her death a suicide.
Despite overwhelming evidence of murder and rape uncovered by her physician father the story remains officially suicide. http://www.lavenajohnson.com/2007/03/cover-up-of-soldiers-death.html
Color of Change has taken on this cover-up and horror with a petition drive to bring this to the attention of Congressman Wexler and his House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Justice for the family of Lavena! http://www.colorofchange.org/lavena/?id=2220-540750
